background
Port Harcourt International Campus (PHIC) is a new, purpose-built school situated in Heliconia
Park, a world-class and secure residential development in the centre of the city. It is a private,
non-profit company whose corporate affairs are managed by elected Directors – among them,
senior personages from Rivers State.
Our pupils, who come from all religious and ethnic backgrounds - both Nigerian and
expatriates - are offered an exciting and unique educational experience.
Initially based wholly on the English National Curriculum, there are also
plans for a phased introduction of a progressive International Curriculum,
designed - and eventually accredited by - the International Baccalaureate
Organization (IBO).
The first provides a solid and well-tested foundation, ensuring that formal
standards are achieved at the highest level. The second will encourage inquiry,
awareness, empathy and engagement with the wider world.
Our international teaching staff are all qualified (some with higher degrees) and
they participate in on-going professional development. With the introduction of an
International Curriculum they would also receive postgraduate training from the IBO.
Port Harcourt International Campus opened on 4th September 2007 as a Primary School,
covering the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and Key Stages 1 & 2 of the English
National Curriculum (i.e. ages 3 to 11 years). During the next few years, a Middle School
(Key Stages 3 & 4, IGCSE and, it is hoped, IBO Middle Years Programme) will be added, and
finally the International Baccalaureate IB diploma, a pre-university diploma. The possibility
of adding other streams is also being discussed and researched.
Port Harcourt International Campus will have an eventual total capacity of 250+ pupils,
enabling it to offer a unique educational opportunity across the complete 3- to 19-yrs age range.
